Who scored the first goal in MLS history?
The first goal in MLS history was scored by Eric Wynalda of the San Jose Clash (now Earthquakes) on April 6, 1996, in the league's inaugural match at Spartan Stadium in San Jose. The goal came in the 87th minute on a free kick.
Wynalda, a US national team veteran, gave San Jose a brief lead before D.C. United equalized. The first MLS season featured 10 teams and was a landmark moment for professional soccer in America.
