MLS uses the standard international soccer points system: 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. Teams are ranked in conference standings based on total points accumulated during the 34-game regular season.
When teams are level on points, tiebreakers are applied in order: total wins, goal difference, goals scored, away goals scored, home goals scored, and away wins. The team with the most points overall earns the Supporters Shield.
