MLS follows standard FIFA disciplinary rules. A yellow card is a caution. Two yellows in one match result in a red card and ejection. A straight red is shown for serious foul play or violent conduct.
Players accumulate yellow cards over the season, with thresholds (5, 8, 11 etc.) triggering automatic one-game suspensions. The Disciplinary Committee can issue additional suspensions for incidents not seen by the referee.
