Match abandonment can occur due to severe weather, safety concerns, or other extraordinary circumstances. When a match is abandoned, the MLS Competition Committee reviews the situation and determines the appropriate action.
Options include replaying the match entirely, resuming from the point of stoppage, or in some cases declaring an official result if the match had progressed sufficiently (typically past the 60th minute). Each situation is handled on a case-by-case basis.
